ABOUT THE FILM - THE STORY:
City of Life (2009) is the first full-length Emirati feature film in history.
Written, Directed, and Produced by Ali F. Mostafa (Ali Faisal Mostafa Bin Abdullatif) - the Emirati filmmaker, graduate of London Film School, who is credited as the director of the first Emirati feature film. Born in London in 1981.
The film is set entirely in the United Arab Emirates, in Dubai. The inspiration for the film came from the director's frustration with people comparing Dubai to Disneyland. He said: "Most of them take one look at the glitzy buildings and assume it's an artificial place. My film has none of that. It has real people with real problems."
The story revolves around three parallel lives, amongst many cultures in one city, namely Dubai:
An Emirati heir struggling with family expectations, an Indian taxi driver chasing his Bollywood dream, and a Romanian flight attendant searching for a new life. A true portrait of life in Dubai.
Languages: Arabic, English, Hindi
Premiere & Success: The film premiered on 11 December 2009 at the Dubai International Film Festival. According to Italia Film International, the movie ranked second in the local UAE box office and made over 500,000 AED in its first weekend.
Full Cast Includes: Alexandra Maria Lara as Natalia Moldovan, Sonu Sood as Basu / Peter Patel, Saoud Al Kaabi as Faisal, Narcy as Khalfan, Jason Flemyng as Guy Berger, Natalie Dormer as Olga, Susan George, Habib Ghuloom, Ahmed Ahmed, Jaaved Jaffrey, and many more.
